FAQ on flu vaccination in the workplace

Why are corporate flu vaccinations economically sensible?

Companies benefit from reduced sick leave and higher productivity. Model calculations show significant savings and attractive return on investment for vaccination campaigns.

What costs does the company incur?

The company bears the agreed medical vaccination fee. Vaccine provision and organization are handled by us in coordination with the responsible authorities.

What is real flu (influenza)?

A serious viral infection with risk of complications. Vaccination is generally recommended, especially for people over 60, with pre-existing conditions, and close contacts.

What are typical symptoms?

Sudden onset with fever, headache/body aches, sore throat, runny nose, cough and severe malaise – usually more pronounced than with a cold.

How does transmission occur?

Through droplets and contact surfaces. Contagious 1-2 days before symptom onset and up to 7 days after. Good hand hygiene reduces risk; in office environments, vaccination protection is particularly useful.

How often to vaccinate and how effective is the vaccination?

Annually, as influenza viruses change. Protection begins after 1-2 weeks and lasts about 6-12 months. No 100% protection, but usually milder course in case of illness.

When is the best time?

Optimally end of October to beginning of November. Later vaccination remains useful; in late seasons even in January.

Can an outbreak of flu be treated?

Predominantly symptomatic (fever/pain control). Antiviral medications can somewhat shorten the course if used very early after symptom onset.
